Yorktown … Sunday 19th May 2013
Once we got my mum comfortable in bed Ali offered to stay at the hotel and keep an eye on her whilst Gloria and I took quick trip down to Yorktown to see the battlefield where the decisive victory of the Revolutionary war was won. We went to the visitor centre, saw a short film outlining the history and then took a drive around the park loop road. The countryside is picturesque with meadows, woods and rivers. The tour helped give us some appreciation of the area over which the battle was fought. When we returned my mum was feeling quite a bit better and managed to get up and get showered before returning to bed. Ali, Gloria and I then took a last walk around Williamsburg. We picked up a Thai meal, ate it in the hotel bedroom and all really enjoyed it. With a bit of luck my mum will continue to improve and we will be on our way to Charlottesville tomorrow.

Wooded creek near Yorktown - the American army under General Washington made camps in these woods and used the valley cut by the creek to transport supplies to the battlefield
Beautiful. Maybe we'll even go some day.
ReplyDeleteHope your Mum is up and about and on your way to Charlottesville.
Take care and enjoy!
