Back in the water—11 May 2013
We got up early to ensure that we were ready for the
launching. Looking at the “pit” we
realized that we wouldn’t be launched until the large catamaran that was tied
up just outside the pit was moved to a slip.
We got busy doing a few things on board and were startled when the
engine of the travel lift started. The
launching went smoothly, almost a replica of the hauling (in reverse). Once we were tied up outside the pit, we motored
across the basin where Tim helped up with the dock lines. Mike was clever enough to sling a line around
the dreaded piling (a row of pilings divides our slip from the next) as we went
past. Sadly that line wasn’t long enough
to accommodate our final position in the slip. We really felt that to leave the
boat for such a time, we should be tied to the piling. By loosening the lines to the dock and using a
little bit of reverse on the engine, we were able to get the boat in proximity
to the pole in question. Making good use
of the boat hook and a lot of patience, Mike was able to ‘lasso the
piling’. We impressed ourselves.
After the docking, we did laundry. Then returned to the boat
for packing, fridge clearing and, of course, lunch. Now we are working our way through the mail
that arrived today. It seems like there
are many things to do before we are ready to depart.
Tonight we will drive to Southport to meet Susan and Clark
for dinner. We haven’t seen them since
last year…
Great dinner and visit, Mike and Gloria!
