Carolina Beach State Park

Carolina Beach State Park   …   Wednesday 8th May

We spent the morning on the boat planning our trip to South Africa whilst the crew at the boat yard applied the first coat of bottom paint. I have to say it looks good. By early afternoon we were restless and needed some exercise so we took off for Carolina Beach State Park. It turned out to be a very nice place to visit and we had a lovely walk in perfect weather. The trail meandered through pine forests and marshy grasslands to overlooks on the Cape Fear river. There were also a number of small lakes along the way where we saw a few birds, but nothing particularly unusual. The park has a marina which looks like it would be a nice place to stay if the depths are adequate. We  think we hiked about 4 miles before arriving back at the car and buying an ice lolly from the park store. We cooked dinner on the boat - andouille sausage, black bean and cheese enchiladas - which was a bit of a challenge as we can't use running water in the galley while we are being re-painted. The galley sink drains direct overboard and would soak the new paint job. Gloria has now gone off to the ladies bathroom  with a  bucket full of dishes that need washing. I think we'll eat out tomorrow. All being well, we should have the second coat on tomorrow and back in the water on Friday.

Three views of Carolina Beach State Park - It's worth noting that there was no fee to visit - unlike State Parks in many other places.
