TurboTax … Wednesday 20th March 2013
Today we were very disciplined and worked on our 2012 tax return. In case anyone was wondering, this turns out to be every bit as frustrating in the Bahamas as it was in Massachusetts. Thanks to Rod and Sue bringing down our latest mail we had most of the information that we needed, but it still took us a long time to work through it. We are reasonably optimistic that we will be able to file before the deadline in mid April, if those last remaining bits of information work their way through our redirected mail.
Changing the subject completely - Gloria got chatting to guy on the dock yesterday evening who was busy cleaning a fish he had caught. We were just finishing up dinner tonight when we saw his boat come in and so we went over to say hello. He had a spectacular days fishing, returning with ~ 8 or 9 Mahi-Mahi. His name was Chris and he very kindly gave us a fish which I cleaned. We were very keen to give him something in return and offered beer, wine and eventually some dried cherries. In the end he accepted none of these and I helped him clean some other fish in an effort to repay his kindness. It turns out he used to own a wine importing business which he sold a couple of years ago - perhaps it's a good thing he didn't accept our offer of wine. I wasn't planning to give hime the boxed stuff we typically drink on the boat, but nonetheless he may not have been too impressed with the quality! Once he was finished cleaning up he dropped by our boat to give us his left over Ballyhoo bait. This not only included a dozen or more of these ~ 4-5 inch bait fish, but also a number which were pre-rigged with hooks and wire leaders. What a generous guy!
No photos today, the taxes kept us too busy. We did have a visit from a 4ft wide spotted eagle ray this afternoon, but I wasn't quick enough getting the camera. Tomorrow a cold front is supposed to come through bringing north western winds, so we'll sit tight for one more day and then start our journey back north on Friday.
