Departure Blues ... Tuesday 19th March, 2013
After breakfast the bags were packed and our guests were
ready to go. Fortunately the rental car
had arrived at the marina. Having
studied a ‘map’ on the web, we set off at about 10:00 am. While it seemed further to the airport than
we had thought, the trip went smoothly.
To our surprise there was even a sign indicating where we had to turn
off the “Queen’s Highway”. [Will this road change names when Charles inherits
the throne?] It was hard to say goodbye. We had enjoyed having Sue and Rod visit, it’s
fun to do things with others. For us it
was a vacation from the routine as well.
Having left Sue and Rod at the airport, we went in search of
the propane re-fill place. Stopping to
ask a chap working beside the road turned out to be key. After successfully getting the two tanks
re-filled, we drove to Georgetown to do some errands. This included posting some tax documents to
Tasha (lucky girl) and doing some provisioning.
We went directly back to Cotinga to get the frozen food tucked away.
In the afternoon, we took advantage of the car to drive to
Barraterre. This tiny community looks
out over very shallow waters toward Rat Cay. It’s hard to imagine living in
such a remote spot. I found myself
wondering what people do for a living.
Presumably it’s fishing or nothing. On the return trip we visited
Rolleville. We stopped at the Exuma
Point Bar and Grill hoping to get a cold drink.
The building was all closed up but the pristine beach was all ours to
enjoy.
Back at the marina we managed to Skype with Tasha. Then Mike made pizza while I did some
laundry. We enjoyed pizza and a film
(DVD borrowed from the office). The wind
dwindled away completely leaving us at the mercy of the no-see-ums.
