The Impact of Some Sunshine

The Impact of Some Sunshine

September 3, 2020

After the rainy evening last night we were surprised to see the sun this morning.  What a lift a clear calm sunny morning can give!  Not that we had realized that the gloomy days were getting to us....

The expectation of a sunny day was not fulfilled however.  By the time we left the Hannaford’s grocery store, the first shower of the day had already happened. The afternoon has been stubbornly cloudy—now it’s raining again. But it isn’t just the weather that can disappoint.  Did we mention the pie we bought in Somesville?

The lure of “homemade pie” was too much for us to resist. Our dreams of delicate flaky pastry and juicy filling were not realized.  There is still one piece sitting on the counter—which says something.  Truthfully, it wasn’t much worse than many pies from the supermarket. It just didn’t measure up to our expectations. Let’s face it, we are food snobs.

Tonight for dinner we enjoyed mustard crusted salmon, rice and salad.  Yummy!

An early morning fog bank at the anchorage in Rockland

The anchorage north of Dix Island in Muscle Ridge channel. This shot taken from Birch Island. We had to carry the dinghy about 20 feet to get back in the water due to the tide retreating!

Sunset in the Dix anchorage - only one other boat present. I had just finished cooking when Gloria pointed out how dramatic the sky looked ... I had been blissfully unaware!
