Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend

Saturday 5th Sept 2020

This morning we sailed back to Linekin Bay where we had spent the first night after our arrival in Maine a few weeks ago. I don’t know whether it is the familiarity of an anchorage that you have visited before or whether some places just feel more secure than others, but this feels like a very relaxing place to be. It was a short but lovely trip over here this morning with light winds and smooth seas. There were many more boats in the anchorage than when we were last here and we just realized that this is the long “Labor Day” weekend. It is sunny and warm and so everyone is out making the most of it. We’ve decided that we will stay at least one extra night and just chill-out.

We picked up a hitch-hiker today. On passage I realized that there was a grasshopper hanging on for dear life to the line that we use to tow our dinghy. No sooner were we anchored than I had my camera and macro lens out and spent the next half hour doing a grasshopper photo-shoot. The poor animal thought the worst was over once we reached the harbor … little did he/she know! After a lazy lunch in the cockpit we took the dinghy into shore and found we could tie up against a granite pier in a public park. Such easy access to shore is great and it was short walk over to Boothbay Harbor, which was mobbed for the holiday weekend. It seemed like mask-compliance was nowhere near as good as in Rockland … maybe more out-of-state tourists?

Before I finish I do want to mention dinner. We made pork chili verde from scratch with fresh tomatillos, jalapenos and cilantro. It was awesome!

Anyway, enjoy your weekend.

Tour boat out of Boothbay Harbor ... if I zoom in on this I can clearly see 20+ people and everyone of them is wearing a  mask. Hoorah for this tour company and their clients!
