It’s interesting that in the USA everyone says “Merry
Christmas” and in the UK “Happy Christmas”. I’ve lived so long in both places I
get thoroughly confused, but as we’re now living on a boat I’m going to say
“Jolly Christmas”! Speaking of differences between the USA and UK, did you know
that they drive on the left hand side of the road here in the US Virgin
Islands, mostly in cars from the USA with steering wheels on the left hand
side.
We started our celebrations on Christmas eve by watching the
Patriots beat the Bills … happy days. Please note that I told Gloria at the
time that Malcolm Brown’s 3rd quarter sack of Bill’s quarterback
Tyrod Taylor would be the turning point in the game. I think my next job should
a football commentator! Anyway I digress, after the game we headed back to
Cotinga and shower time. Nothing too fancy you understand, just the garden
sprayer with half a gallon of warm water! We do have a proper shower (two
actually) but with water in relatively short supply we mostly use the garden
sprayer. Over the last couple of days we have made four trips in the dinghy
carrying three 5-gallon jerry cans to the dock to fill with water (21 cents a
gallon) and are now back up to our full capacity of 120 gallons. We spent a peaceful
evening on board and were woken this morning by the sound of a street parade
with Caribbean style Christmas music blaring out from the back of a
disco-truck. All very seasonal, but it was 6 o’clock in the morning! After
breakfast in the cockpit and a leisurely morning, we came ashore in the dinghy
and have walked out to the airport. Tasha’s plane from Miami should arrive at
2.12pm, about half an hour from now. Then the real partying will begin! We hope
you all have a lovely time over the holidays.
