Fooled again

Fooled again

Wednesday March 10, 2021

The wind was lighter this morning.  I was convinced that the weather was starting to moderate.  What a dunce!  By the time we left the boat, approx. 1:30 pm, there were choppy waves and white streaks everywhere.  Right now it’s mostly 15 -20 knots but gusting to 25 knots occasionally.  One could grow tired of this...

Once ashore this afternoon, we cycled to Sombrero Beach.  It was surprisingly pleasant on the beach—fairly warm but with a nice breeze.  It was also surprisingly busy.  I wasn’t expecting a Wednesday to be quite so busy.  I’m not sure if this is the start of the spring break event or what.  If it is then I can see why the CDC is so worried about what the impact will be on the spread of the virus.

As you might imagine, we are keeping a close eye on the weather forecast.  At the moment it looks like the winds (and also the seas) might start to subside on Sunday.  It’s possible that the winds may turn more toward the southeast on Monday.  We think this might be our opportunity to start moving again.  Obviously, we need to continue to monitor the forecast and the conditions predicted for the following days.  We have options around offshore and longer hops versus in the Hawk channel and shorter hops.  The wind and sea conditions will play a large role in our decision.

A Royal tern - perched on the railing of the dock down at Sombrero Beach. When in full breeding plumage the black cap goes all the way to the beak - as it is now this bird has an "Einstein" hair-do!

  1. Very windy here in Vero past 3 days from the NE and today I would say still windy but from the North. So I am not surprised at your winds and glad you are at a nice mooring.
