St Simons Island, Georgia ... Sunday 18th November 2012
Over the past three days, we have travelled 140 miles of the ICW. These sections contain some of the shallowest portions of the waterway with many narrow channels, big currents and extreme tides. So by the time we arrived at St. Simons Island this afternoon, we were pretty tired. I wanted to have a nice nap. Mike had other ideas—showers followed by walking into town to a restaurant to watch (you guessed it) the football game. The afternoon was actually warm so the garden sprayer shower wasn’t as bad as it can be. We went by dinghy under a 7-foot vertical clearance bridge to a marina where we paid $5 to tie up the inflatable. The walk to town was made more interesting by the uncertainty regarding the route. There is nothing quite like the prospect of walking two miles in the wrong direction before realizing your error. Luckily for Mike, we were on the correct road. We found a seafood place and ate too much while watching the Patriots play the Colts. The walk home in the dark was not quite as lovely. The increasing winds and drizzle added a certain something. We are planning a layover day here to rest, do laundry and get some provisions. Also we may need to take a closer look at the weather.

The Creighton Narrows - a wild and beautiful section of the Georgia ICW. We came as close to running aground here as anywhere, when we were alarmed to see depth drop to 7ft. I think the inside corners of bends have a particular tendency to silt up and we cut this one a little too close.
