Cleaning, laundry and amazing feats

Cleaning, laundry and amazing feats   ...   12 November 2012

I cleaned the inside of the boat this morning while Mike cycled to West Marine.  He went to get the charts for Florida.  Somehow we had failed to notice that the book of charts we have only goes as far as the Florida border.  Now that we are getting closer and starting to think about Florida more seriously, we realized this omission.  So the trip to West Marine was needed. It turned out a little differently than planned.
I’ve known Mike a long time and I know that he can do amazing things.  But when he returned to the boat with a 55 pound anchor, I was stunned.  How can you go out to buy charts on a bicycle and come home with a Rocna anchor?  Apparently the ‘anchor of our dreams’ was sitting on the shelf at West Marine.  The temptation proved too much for Mike.  As you probably guessed, West Marine put the anchor on a shuttle service that runs to the marina close to our anchorage.  So by the time Mike cycled back to the marina, the anchor was already there. Now it’s tied onto our bow roller.  Tomorrow when we set off we will have to figure out how to get the CQR back onto to the other roller and swap over the anchor rode. Mike assures that it’s “easy” but the explanation didn't make any sense to me.

Laundry in the afternoon was just a dull necessity.  Then we cleaned the decks. The foredeck had become pretty muddy from the anchor and chain. Then it was time for showers before dinner.

We had dinner with Lynn and Lee, the couple for NYC that we met at River Dunes.  They had spent a little longer at River Dunes waiting for their dog Maggie to recover from surgery, and then made a long passage outside to Charleston.  We were very happy to meet up with them again.  We had a lovely meal of squash soup  with cardamon, spinach salad and bread.

Washing machines .... The laundromat is part of the marina restaurant complex and when the waiter came in and saw me taking pictures he clearly thought I was very strange!
