Hurdles cleared ... June 10th 2015
Today dawned clear and bright. What a joy it was to see the sun, after two
rainy, windy days.
The nice weather and modest winds meant that Mike was able
to get out on the Ruth, the wooden powerboat that belongs to the resort. He had been scheduled to take out some high
school groups on Tuesday but a combination of the small craft advisory and some
made up headlines (courtesy of my brothers) convinced him that it wasn’t the
best way to start. So this morning, the
launch dropped Mike and two advisors onto the Ruth. They got the engine going, dropped the
mooring and Mike drove the boat through the entire standard route. On return, Mike brought the boat into the
dock. He drove it off the dock to regain the mooring. At that point, I puttered out in our dinghy
to pick up the crew. Unlike Mike, my
driving left some things to be desired.
I’d like to blame it on steering with my left hand but realistically
there’s probably more to it.
After lunch we went into Bath to drop some ‘Sail Cotinga’
leaflets at the tourist office. We had
hoped to chat to the chap in charge about our advertising poster but he wasn’t
around. A quick trip to the post office,
revealed the location of a fantastic yarn shop.
Wow, what a place! It has all
manner of knitting and weaving supplies in glorious colors. I managed to depart without a purchase. I count that as quite an accomplishment. As I don’t knit or weave, I guess that’s not
so impressive.
Upon returning to Sebasco, we decided to go out for a
sail. We did need to run the engine (for
the fridge) and it was a lovely afternoon.
The southerly wind dictated a west/east route. Sailing into the late afternoon sun trying to
spot the lobster pots was certainly challenging. It was confidence building to sail what
should be our standard route without incident.

The following photos were taken yesterday afternoon at Popham Beach. We were starting to get cabin fever stuck on the boat in poor weather so we jumped in the dinghy and then the car and took a trip to Poppam Beach state park. It was pretty grey and gloomy at first but did brighten up a little before we left.
