Back on Cotinga

Back on Cotinga   …   Friday 14th June 2013

Gloria and I made it back to Wilmington, North Carolina at about 4.30 this afternoon. The boat looks just fine and it feels really good to be back aboard. I believe a tropical storm passed through and dropped 4 inches of rain so it was good to see that there was very little water in the bilge. The only problem we could see is that our radar reflector got blown off and was hanging overboard by the line that used to hold it to the spreaders, but this is easy to fix - it's happened before. Our journey went as well as could be expected and we both managed to get some sleep on the 15 hour leg from Johannesburg to New York and we made our connection to Charlotte without too much hassle. however, the drive over to Wilmington was a bit of a struggle and took longer than we anticipated (about 4 hours). Anyway, we are the lucky ones. As I write this it's almost 10 pm and Tasha is still at JFK - she had a 9 hour flight to Abu Dhabi followed by a13 hour flight to JFK, only to find that her 4 hour stop over had become a 6 hour stop over due to delays. She still has the flight to LA and bus ride to Claremont. I can't imagine how tired she must feel and she starts her summer job on Monday morning! Yikes.
