Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday   …   3rd February 2013

For the first time in our lives we got to eat our lunch on Super Bowl Sunday sitting outdoors in the cockpit in our shorts and T shirts. How good is that?! It was a beautiful day here and we felt very lucky to be in this situation. We didn't sit around all day, in fact we were quite busy. In the morning we raised the main sail and re-worked the reefing system. We found that the gooseneck, which holds the boom onto the mast, has a pair of channels on either side that lets you feed through the reefing lines and appears to keep them out of the way of the released sail. We also doubled back the lines at the end of the boom, increasing the mechanical advantage at the clew. Finally we re-marked the dropping points for the main halyard. This probably reads as gobbledygook - I had meant to take some photos but forgot, so I will try and put some up later. The bottom line is that we are reasonably confident the reefing system will perform much better. Having completed the reefing and taken showers at the marina we pulled up anchor and took Cotinga into the fuel dock to fill up with diesel and water and then returned to the harbor to re-anchor. It was then time for the aforementioned lunch - grilled skirt steak, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. Very delicious. We spent the afternoon cleaning and polishing the stainless steel - rails, windows, pedestal guards, dories etc. As fresh water is so precious we don't get to wash down the boat and it seems to grow a crusty layer of salt. By 5pm we were all finished and headed into the marina to hang out at the "Tipsy Seagull" and watch the Super Bowl. There was quite a crowd and it was a fun evening. By the time we got back to the boat it was closer to real world midnight than the "boaters midnight" (9pm) when we usually start to turn in. Tomorrow, back to Marsh Harbor to pick up Bridget and Gunther on Tuesday.

Kathy and Dave Anderson just sent us a link to an excellent video that they created for their week in the Abaco .... Thanks Kathy + Dave, this is great!

I believe the link does work directly
