Morning arrived

Morning arrived   ...   Sunday 17th February

We passed a disturbed night on account of the wind.  The boat was already rocking and rolling by the time we went to bed.  About midnight we were both awake with the boat dancing to and fro and wind howling through the rigging. It was a long time before we got back to sleep.  While things were calmer this morning, the wind was still blowing fairly strongly.  Listening to the cruisers net this morning we heard reports of gusts up to 40 mph overnight.  We are glad that’s over….

After a late breakfast, we went to shore and walked down to the Abaco Inn.  On the way one can see the Atlantic.  The waves near shore were impressive with huge plumes of spray being blown off the wave crests.  Perhaps more shocking was the sight of the waves and white caps out to a hideously bumpy horizon. This is what they describe as "elephants" on the horizon. Even the protected Sea of Abaco was a mass of white caps.

This evening the wind has settled down considerably but the temperature remains cool.  Mike prepared a great meal of Brazilian Fish Stew.  Or in our case perhaps best called Brazilian Shrimp Stew (no fish).  This meal had lime juice, cilantro, tomatoes, peppers, shrimp and plantains.  Delicious and quite different.
