Bridget and Gunther arrive in Marsh Harbor

Bridget and Gunther arrive in Marsh Harbor   …   Tuesday 5th February

Amazing - for the second time in two weeks the travel plans worked perfectly! Bridget and Gunther flew from boston to Orlando and then on to Marsh Harbor. Their plane was scheduled to arrive at 12.30pm, by 12.50pm they were waiting on the dinghy dock and the taxi driver hailed us on the VHF radio and we picked them up in the Dumb Dog. After storing away their gear and eating a quick lunch we headed out of Marsh Harbor and sailed over to Great Guana Cay. The winds were light and it was a very gentle ride. Gunther decided to do some fishing and on the second cast using conch as bait, he hooked and landed a 2ft long Atlantic Pipe Fish. We landed the fish on the deck and initially mis-identified it as a species that was not good to eat, so we were preparing to take the hook out when he jumped over board. Gunther pulled it in again but he bit through the line and was gone. Only afterwards did we correctly identify it as a Pipe Fish - which are good to eat. We headed into the harbor and picked up a mooring, but with a depth sounder reporting 8ft and nearly 2.5ft to drop with the tide we decided we didn't have enough depth, so we dropped the mooring and moved over to the anchorage in the adjacent bay. we dropped hook, had a refreshing beer and watched a fine sunset before retiring indoors. We ate pork casserole, rice and butternut squab for dinner, with "mince pies" (English style) for dessert. Now we are hanging out chatting in the cosy cabin.
