Dave and Kathy Arrive … Wednesday 23rd January 2013
It was back in November that Dave and Kathy booked their flights to the Bahamas. We said that if they could make it to Marsh Harbor in January we would meet them there, and so it happened. We had anchored fairly close to the Union Jack Dinghy dock and I had just started out for shore in the dinghy when I saw them emerge from the taxi - less than 20 minutes after their scheduled arrival time at the airport. We bundled the bags into the Dumb Dog and headed back to Cotinga. We met when we were all at Brown University in 1985-7 - Dave and Kathy were in the geology department and Gloria and I in chemistry, with both departments shared the same building. Dave and I spent many a happy day rock and ice climbing together. It's been a while since I last saw Dave and Kathy and although Gloria saw Dave a few years ago, when he was visiting universities on the East coast with their elder daughter Julie, it's been more than 20 years since Gloria last saw Kathy. It is great to see them again. The stiff winds of the last 36 hours seem to have abated and the the weather forecast is pretty good. Dave and Kathy left their home in boulder Colorado at 10pm last night - so although it doesn't show they must be exhausted. I'm sure we won't be up late tonight and tomorrow we will head out to spend a week exploring the Abaco together.
