Bouncy Nights - last night and tonight

Bouncy Nights - last night and tonight …   Tuesday 22 Jan 2013

When we went to bed yesterday evening there was a gentle breeze blowing in contrast to the calm in the afternoon. By 2am this had increased to a steady wind blowing out of the south (rather than west as forecast), the one direction that there is little protection in Settlement Harbor (Great Guana Cay) and there was considerable bounce in the harbor. After fretting for a while, concerned that we had left the dinghy with the outboard still attached,  Mike got up and lifted the motor and put it back on the rail of Cotinga. Having accomplished this we went back to bed and slept briefly until we were awakened by a rainstorm.  Mike, who had taken seasickness tablets prior to working on the dinghy, slept soundly until morning. When we woke, the wind had swung round to the north west and conditions in the harbor were much more comfortable. We spent a couple of hours cleaning and tidying he boat in preparation for the arrival of our friends Dave and Kathy tomorrow. Shortly after noon we dropped the mooring and motored out of the harbor, raised the genoa and headed back to Marsh Harbor. We chose to anchor near the south shore of the harbor, putting us close to the dinghy dock but with greater fetch for the wind driven chop. As you might expect with winds in the 20-25mph range it is quite bumpy on the anchor but we do feel we are securely hooked. We decided to hold off going ashore until the morning and spent the remaining part of the afternoon cooking apple pie. We were delight to get an email from Tash telling us she was back in Cape Town after a week long trip. For those of you who are interested she is keeping photo - blog "Out Beyond the Western Squalls" which has some great pictures.
