Lazy Day ... 13th May 2018

Lazy Day 13th May 2018

On Sunday there is no weather broadcast from Chris Parker, so we could sleep in.  It was after 7:30 when I finally rolled out of bed.  I made coffee and then Mike made crepes for breakfast—yummy.  We ran the engine, washed dishes, read our books and generally lazed around until 10:30 when we took the dinghy to shore.  A quick walk up Boo Boo Hill provided spectacular views of the surrounding waters.  There are so many different shades based on the depth of the water and the nature of the bottom.  It’s just stunning.

We returned to the boat and got ready to go snorkeling.  We went to the area known as the Rangers Garden where there are two dinghy moorings.  While we picked the time based on the timing of low water, there still seemed to be plenty of current in the cut.  The water was fairly choppy opposite the Park headquarters but we swam around and enjoyed the amazing array of sea fans, sponges and, of course, fish.  On the way back to Cotinga, Mike decided to have a look at the sunken vessel next to mooring ball #9.  He saw a turtle and the wreck.  Then he spotted the shark that seemed to be coming back for a second look at him.  I was glad I elected to stay in the ‘dumb dog’.  When we got back to Cotinga, the shark kept swimming around our dinghy and boat for quite a while.  Maybe he was contemplating “the one that got away…”

Lunch and a nap followed our de-salting showers.  Soon we will need to get moving again, but it is great to have a lazy day tied to the mooring ball.  Interestingly, half the time we point to the wind (SW, when the tide is going out), the other half we are bow to the N and the wind is on the beam, leading to a sense of being healed over to port.  The transition can be a bit startling,  it seems likely that the stern will hit the shallows at the side of the channel.
