“Déjà vu … All Over Again”

“Déjà vu … All Over Again”

Wednesday 2nd Sept 2020

Well we are back in Rockland, again! It’s not that we love the place; it’s just very convenient for getting stuff done. We crossed Penobscot Bay this morning in light south-easterly winds and once in the harbor, decided to use the calm conditions to take Cotinga into the public dock and fill up with water. Whilst we were there we took a quick walk up to the bakery on Main Street and bought some sandwiches, a loaf of bread and some cookies. Actually quite a lot of cookies! Everything we have had from this shop has been excellent. Once back on the boat we ate our sandwiches (priorities first) and then motored out to the south side of the anchorage and dropped the hook. We still have to go back to town to buy groceries for the next week or two, but the wind piped up this afternoon and we didn’t really fancy a wet dinghy ride to town, so we’ve been hanging out and relaxing. We’ll do a shopping trip tomorrow morning before heading out. That way we’ll have everything we need as we make our way south to Rhode Island. Not much else to say!

It’s now close to 9pm and bedtime. We had a lovely afternoon and evening, reading our books, editing photos, eating dinner and watching a movie.  It’s raining outside but the boat is nice and cozy. We have heating on board (forced hot air) – a diesel powered Espar heater and a separate system that works off the hot water tank – but so far this trip we haven’t used either. However, you can feel the days draw in and it’s getting cool so it won’t be long before we start using the Espar in the mornings and evenings. Our lantern generates a little heat and certainly gives off a warm glow. We also have a full shower, but when we are cruising we tend to use a 1-gallon garden sprayer filled with hot water, which is what I used tonight. But if we’d been smart we’d have had long showers last night with all the hot water we had because we were refilling water today. Great idea … only 24 hours too late!
