Odd Jobs and Fun Things

Odd Jobs and Fun Things

Friday 18th December 2020

It was a cold morning; only 42oF outside, so we started our day drinking coffee and cranking up our Espar diesel heater. Warm and snug in the cabin of the boat we then ate blueberry pancakes whilst watching a condensed version of last nights football game between the Chargers and Raiders. Buying an annual subscription to NFL Game Pass for $90 was great idea! Now we can watch any game we like, whenever we want, as a full broadcast or an abbreviated set of plays that are over in one hour.  What a great way to start the day … we are so lucky!

We are not moving on until tomorrow so we spent the rest of the day doing a few boat jobs and taking some down time. We polished the inside of the stainless steel ports (windows) and replaced n-see-um netting on our dorade vents. Gloria spent several hours working on her latest quilt and I headed to shore for a walk and to take some photos. It’s worth noting that Gloria has a sewing machine on board that runs off 120v AC current using an invertor off our 12v batteries. It doesn’t take long to set up but it’s one of those things where you need to have at a couple of free hours to make it seem worthwhile.

I was interested to read on the “interwebs” today that President Obama just published a list of seventeen books that he read in 2020 and highly recommends. I believe he does this every year and it struck me as utterly inconceivable that the current President would ever highlight such a list … can you imagine what it might include if he did ... masterpieces such as “The Art of the Deal” and “See Spot run”?

  1. I would take 42 degrees over 10 degrees (with wind chill) and over a foot of snow that we have here! If you have a chance, could you show a piece of Gloria’s quilt?

  2. Hi Sheila, we'll try and be more sensitive complaining about the cold in future blogs! Thanks for the suggestion of showing Gloria's quilt in progress - next time it's out I'll take and post some shots. Stay warm.

  3. Mike, no need for to be more sensitive about the temp. as you probably have more difficulty warming the boat than I have turning up the heat. Plus, it gives me an excuse to stay indoors and bake some bread! I am planning on making my mom’s Christmas kalochi, a type of bread with nuts and cinnamon.
